ET (Futuristic Lover) | Katy Perry

What is the meaning and main idea of Katy Perry's E.T. - Futuristic Lover song? What is the message the song tries to convey? Is it really about alien or is it a figurative word? Of course, it's not really a woman's love to an alien. The word E.T. is used here fugartively. Indeed, the whole verses in the lyric are also figurative. And all are to describe how perfect Katy Perry's boy is. So, in short, Katy Perry's E.T. tells us about a girl's very deep feeling toward a boy, her boyfriend. Before we continue the discussion, below is the complete lyric of the song for your reference.

E.T. (Futuristic Lover) - Katy Perry

You're so hypnotizing
Could you be the devil?
Could you be an angel?
Your touch, magnetizing
Feels like I am floating
Leave my body glowing

They say, "Be afraid"
You're not like the others, futuristic lover
Different DNA, they don't understand you

PRE-CHORUS
You're from a whole another world
A different dimension, you open my eyes
And I'm ready to go, lead me into the light

CHORUS
Kiss me, k-k-kiss me
Infect me with your love
And fill me with your poison
Take me, t-t-take me
Wanna be your victim, ready for abduction
Boy, (boy), you're an alien
Your touch so foreign
It's supernatural, extraterrestrial

You're so supersonic
Wanna feel your powers
Stun me with your lasers
Your kiss is cosmic
Every move is magic

PRE-CHORUS
You're from a whole another world
A different dimension, you open my eyes
And I'm ready to go, lead me into the light

CHORUS
Kiss me, k-k-kiss me
Infect me with your love
And fill me with your poison
Take me, t-t-take me
Wanna be your victim, ready for abduction
Boy, (boy), you're an alien
Your touch so foreign
It's supernatural, extraterrestrial

There is this transcendental
On another level
Boy, you're my lucky star
I wanna walk on your wave length
And be there when you vibrate
For you I risk it all, all

All

CHORUS
Kiss me, k-k-kiss me
Infect me with your love
And fill me with your poison
Take me, t-t-take me
Wanna be your victim, ready for abduction
Boy, (boy), you're an alien
Your touch so foreign
It's supernatural, extraterrestrial

Extraterrestrial
Extraterrestrial
Boy, you're an alien
Your touch so foreign
It's supernatural
Extraterrestrial

Story of the Song
The song is opened with her statement adoring her boy 'You're so hypnotizing.' Of course it can be interpreted that she has been so interested in and amazed at her boy. Whatever he does makes her fly. Whatever he says makes her smile. Even when he touches, she 'feels like floating, leaves her body glowing.' In a nutshet, in her eyes he is so perfect. Hence she then asks, 'Could you be the devil, could you be an angel?' He asks that because it's difficult to find such a perfect human being (of course, only in her imagination).

However, her friends who also see the perfection in him are suspicious. For them, he is not human being. She must be alien in disguis. Therefore, they warn her and say 'be afraid' he is 'not like the others.' In love with him, she replies all her friends' suspicion saying you 'don't understand' him.

However, in her heart she admits that her boy is so different. He is 'from a whole other world, a different dimension.' Perhaps what is meant by this part is that the boy is so different from boys she usually find. Or in other words, he is much better than any other boys. It's likely since then she says 'you open my eyes, and I'm ready to go, lead me into the light' which likely means she is ready to leave her current lifestyle to follow his which she thinks much better. It is proved with the next verse 'kiss me, infect me with your love and fill me with your poison. Take me, wanne be a victim, ready for abduction.' Of course it is impossible for her let anyone to infect her and poison her accept she knows that the infection and poison one brings will make her better. The same also applies in the case of abduction. She will only let someone to abduct her, when she realizes that it will bring her to better life.

So, as I have written above, the whole part in this song are figurative. And yes, it's figurative language which you will use when you want to describe something or someone you adore much. Using literal language will not be able to represent your feeling toward the thing or the one you adore.

Well, that's my interpretation of Katy Perry's E.T. - Futuristic Lover song. Your comment is highly appreciated.
