What is the meaning and main idea of Fun, Glee Cast's We Are Young song? What is the message the song tries to convey? Continue reading this article to find the answer. And for your reference, below is the complete lyric of the song.
For me, this Fun/Glee Cast's We Are Young song is quite ambiguous. And you know what? The first time I listen to the song, I thought that the song is about struggle. Well, I got such idea since I focused on the second verse of the lyric: " I know I gave it to you months ago.... I'm trying hard to take it back." Yes, It is this verse which make me confused. The "To take it back" part reflects the struggle to get something which has been arrogated from someone. If I try hard to get the cigarrete back from you, it means that you have arrogated the cigarrete from me, right? Yes, for the first time I thought it is the main point of the song.
However, after listening the song for several times, it comes to my mind that instead of telling us about one's struggle to get what once arrogated from them, I thought this Glee Cast's We Are Young song tells us a man's regret of what he has done to his girl. This time I interpret the second verse as the statement of a lover to his/her love partner to forgive him. This thought is supported with the phrase "my apologies" in that part. Departing from this phrase, I then interpret that the line "I know I gave it to you month ago" tells about what he has done to the girl, name a scar. In a word, it is pain which is given. And it is an attempt to ask her forgiveness which the main is doing. "I'm trying hard to take it back."
The third verse also support my thought. "So if by the time the bar closes. And you feel like falling down. I'll carry you home." The focus of my attention is on the sentence "I'll carry you home." I connect the phrase with the previous scene where one of the couple asks for forgiveness. By carrying the girl home, I thought, the man is trying to impress the girl and to show her that he cares.
The chorus part, however, does not seem to relate directly to the main idea. But, if we connect this part to other parts then the connection can be clear. For me, this part is just the expression of encouragement to the partner who is sad. "We are young. So let's set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun." The lines are statements to motivate the partner to enjoy their togetherness because they are still young and they still have much time and opportunity.
Well, that's my interpretation of Glee Cast's We Are Young song. Don't hesitate to comment.
We Are Young - Glee Cast / Fun
Give me a second I,
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the empire state
My lover he's waiting for me just across the bar
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses asking about a scar, and
I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
But between drinks and subtle things
Though holes in my apologies, you know
I'm trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Now I know that I'm not
All that you've got
I guess that I
I just thought,
Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let's raise a cab
'Cause I found someone to carry me home
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Tonight
We are young (We are young)
So let's set the world on fire (fire)
We can burn brighter than the sun
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
Carry me home tonight
(The world is on my side I let the reasons run)
Just carry me home tonight
(So will someone come and carry me home tonight?)
Carry me home tonight
(Your name is never right but I can hear you cry)
Just carry me home tonight
(So will someone come and carry me home)
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
(We are young)Tonight

stupid interpretation
ReplyDeleteIt's about love.
ReplyDeleteHe told her he loved her while he was drunk, and it ruined their relationship.
He's sorry for it, and there are holes in his apology. He's sorry for saying it, but doesn't regret his feelings or that she knows.
He understands that he shouldn't love her, for whatever reasons, and that its hard for her to forget it, but if that's what she really wants he'll apologize and instead party harder to help her forget.
He tells her, if she 'feels like falling down' (falling in love with him too) he'll carry her home (basically be happy with whatever happens so long as she truly loves him).
But in the end, his main point is that they are young, the world (their lives are) is theirs to do as they please, they should be enjoying life.
One more thing, he repeatedly wants to find someone that will carry him home. Maybe trying to say that all he really wants is for someone to accept his love (when he's falling down ie:falling in love) and love him back.
DeleteHe failed in expressing his feelings to someone before, and now all he wants is to set the world on far, party, and find someone that will accept him for his downfalls/bad habits and carry him home.
love this interpretation
DeleteCome on people it's about venereal diseases and how he gave her one and he's vsorry. 'I gave it to you months ago', apologizing, man 'asking about a 'scar''. Also it's about him being in love and enjoying yourself when your young but it's about diseases people.
ReplyDeletethe scar part means he beat the girl, the guy in the glasses is the cop looking for a complaint from the girl, he is begging her to forgive him,,,,he is sorry for what he did and trying to tell her that together they can do anything so please dont say anything,,,she was at the bar with her friends when he walked in and saw her, so this gives him hope that if he apologizes she will forgive him and they can move forward,,,,Im just a cop who may be reading WAY into this, but I have seen stories like this time and time again
ReplyDeleteIt's a bombo clat song. That's all I can say
ReplyDeletei assumed it was about a guy, who done something wrong to his ex, she she left him, and now he's in a new relationship (my lover she is waiting for me just across the bar), although deep down, he knows he still loves his ex, henceforth all the apologies, and it's really her he wants to carry home/be carried home by and love. anybody?!
ReplyDeletei think dis song is also can be interpret in a situation of friends or any other else relationship.
ReplyDeletethe title is we r young. and, as u can see young is about time.
