Meaning, Main Idea and Message of The Song
What are you gonna do if you find someone whom you feel the chemistry with him? Will you just let him go or will you do something to make him stay around? Well, if you ask this question to Carly Rae Jepsen I'm sure she will respond by singing this Call Me Maybe song and then says "I'm gonna give him my number and let him do what he chooses to do."
So, what is this Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe song about? Based on the complete lyric above, this song seems to tell us about a girl's smart attempt to approach a boy to whom her heart is falling. I said the attempt is smart since it doesn't show aggresiveness nor submission. She doesn't ask him his number and then sends him messages to show her admiration (aggresive). But she also doesn't keep silent and do nothing (submission). What he does is simply giving him her number. Simple as it may seem. But the effect is great. By doing this she will be able to know whether the boy responds positively to her feeling or not without embarassing herself.
Normally, you know, when a boy has a feeling to a girl he will try hard to find ways to express his feeling. And nowadays the most popular way seems to be using modern technologies like cellphone. So, if he doesn't have her number, he will try hard to have it. After he has had it, he will begin to aggresively send her messages or call her. And the rest will depend on the girl's reaction.
In the Call Me Maybe song, it is the girl who has a feeling to the boy. Unfortunately, she doesn't know whether the boy has the same feeling to her. Therefore, she decides to give him her number even if they just met. If the boy finally calls her or sends her messages, she will know that the boy is at least interested in her. If so, she can do something further. In contrast, if he does nothing with the number, she will know that he is not interested in her and she can continue her life without regret and embarassment. Smart, isn't it?
Well, that's my interpretation of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe song. What do you say?
Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen
I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you're in my way
I trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way
PRE-CHORUS
Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans, skin was showing
Hot night, wind was blowing
Where you think you're going, baby?
CHORUS
Hey I just met you and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right at you baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe
Hey I just met you and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe
You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all
But still you're in my way
I beg, and borrow and steal
At first sight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it
But it's in my way
PRE-CHORUS
CHORUS
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
And you should know that I missed you so, so bad
(Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad)
It's hard to look right at you baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe
CHORUS
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
And you should know that so call me maybe

Well, that's my interpretation of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe song. What do you say?
i think you're interpretation is kinda gay
ReplyDeleteHey. Don't say something is gay when you really mean it's dumb or stupid. It's offensive to gay people, and it's like saying 'wow, this interpretation is so 'unknown person with a pointless statement'.
DeleteI can interpret it more easily for you just by changing the name.
DeleteI call this "The horny song".
nah..its pretty gay. the first guy was right
Delete^ that's mean, i liked the interpretation actually
ReplyDeleteSTFU. It's a song. And mean? Really. No better comeback?
DeleteReally? Does it really have to do about comebacks?
DeleteWow gayest shit ever. I feel like I'm in a Highschool Musical/Glee production. I mean come on people!!! First Kesha now this crap? The tune is catchy, I get it. But, I just think if you're gonna sing, do it right.America needs some more tasteful music.
ReplyDeleteWow, stupidest comment ever.
DeleteYes, the music is catchy.
DeleteThe problem is the lyrics. I'm tired of hearing the same thing over and over again.
On top of that, that girl needs to get laid ... immediately!
Gay gay gayest song. Coughing gayitis.
ReplyDelete^ idiot idiot idiotic comment. This person is coughing out retarded shit.
Delete<3...FEEL THE LOVE!!!!not enough not enough not enough LOVE...joyful noise is a great movie btw
ReplyDeleteGay=happy...yay!...mwahahaha
ReplyDeleteEveryone here is thinking way to much about it. This song is about names, and what the singer wants to be called. Apparently, she wants to be called "Maybe". An interesting name choice.
ReplyDeleteat first, she says her name is crazy. "Hey, I just met you, and this is Crazy. But here's my number. So call me Maybe." So her nickname is maybe.
DeleteRotflmao! the two best comments.
DeleteShe wants to be called: F*ck Me NOW!
DeleteHonestly, why the hate for this song? I don't like a lot of pop, but this has a very catchy tune and none of the lyrics are particularly stupid. I don't really understand the whole song(what is in her way? Is something blocking her chosen course or is she saying she's on the path to him or what?) but overall it's quite nice.
ReplyDeletethe lyrics are not stupid, just annoying repetitive!!!!!
DeleteWhy sing the same thing over and over ... and then OVER again!
Also, what she is saying is that she needs to get laid, desperately.
the lyrics don't make much sense. how could she have missed him so bad before he came into her life?
DeleteBecause she always knew what she wanted and when he came into her life she got that. So she had been missing the idea of him, hence the camera panning to the romance novel in the video and the scene of them being the cover of a romance novel together...
DeleteIts a pop song people. It doesnt have to make sense!
ReplyDeleteMY INTERPRETATION IS SHE IS A PSYCHO STALKER WHO MIGHT HAVE A PERSONALITY DISORDER. SHE THROWS A WISH INTO A WELL AND THEN THE 1ST GUY SHES SEES SHES OBSESSED WITH. THEN SHES LIKE "CALL ME ...MAYBE!" MAYBE HE DOESNT WANT TO CALL HER. SHE SHOULDNT BEG BORROW AND STEAL BECAUSE IT IS NOT REAL. ANY BY THE WAY DOES SHE REALLY SAY SHE MISSES HIM AND SHE JUST HIM?!?! STOP LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD!!!
ReplyDeleteOH BY THE WAY....CALL ME MAYBE..PLEASE CALL ME..MAYBE PLEASE CALL ME..CALL ME PLEASE MAYBE CALL ME :-)
That is a SOLID response. We need more people in this world that tell it like it is!! You should receive some type of award!!!! Who do I talk to about that?!
ReplyDeleteEPIC response!!!!!
I have the biggest snicker doodle ever (; LADYS.
ReplyDeleteand here i thought Africa was bad...
ReplyDeleteMy cat just puked
ReplyDeleteWhoever thinks calling something gay is offensive is gay. This song is gay and the interpretation is even gayer because it's what a gay captain obvious would write in his diary.
ReplyDeleteThe person below me who's about to insult this comment is gay too. Unless they say nice things about it, in which case they're aight.
At first she is singing about how he is in her way. Then later she sings about how he just met him and how she want him to ask her out. She's obviously a psycho and unstable bitch, and I don't think we need to deeper. This is a classic example of someone you shouldn't put your dick in. It's almost impossible to understand how she is thinking, and most likely it's not making sense in any way.
ReplyDeleteThis reasoning is good, even some of my family members think this song is about rape, sad. But good ,very good reasoning.
