Starship - Nicki Minaj

[Nicki Minaj]
Let's go to the beach, each
Let's go get away
They say, what they gonna say?
Have a drink, clink, found the bud light
Bad b-tches like me, is hard to come by
The patron on, let's go get it on
The zone on, yes, I'm in the zone
Is it two, three? Leave a good tip
I'mma blow off my money and don't give two sh-ts

I'm on the floor, floor
I love to dance
So give me more more, till I can't stand
Get on the floor, floor
Like it's your last chance
If you want more, more
Then here I am

CHORUS (2x)
Starships were meant to fly
Hands up, and touch the sky
Can't stop, 'cause we're so high
Let's do this one more time

Starships were meant to fly
Hands up, and touch the sky
Let's do this one last time
Can't stop..

(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)

Jump in my hoopty hoopty hoop
I own that
And I ain't paying my rent this month
I owe that
But f-ck who you want, and f-ck who you like
Dance our life, there's no end in sight

Twinkle, twinkle, little star

Now everybody let me hear you say ray ray ray
Now spend all your money 'cause they pay pay pay
And if you're a G, you a G,G,G!
My name is Onika, you can call me Nicki

Get on the floor, floor
Like it's your last chance
If you want more, more
Then here I am

CHORUS

(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)

CHORUS

(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)
(We're higher than a motherf-ck-r)

Meaning, Main Idea, and Message of The Song

Based on the lyric of Nicki Minaj's Starship song above, it seems to me that this song tells about one's free lifestyle. Hedonism is the main idea of the song. Partying, shopping, wasting money and living without rules are the message that this song tries to convey.

All verses support this main idea. In the first verse, the singer asks her friends (and us, the listeners) to go have some fun. Going to the beach and having a drink are two examples to have fun. And in doing so, the singer warns us not to care of what people are gonna say. It implicitly emphasizes that if we still care of what people say, we cannot have fun. 'Just do whatever you like' seems to be message of this verse.

Then, what else can we do to have fun? The second verse gives an answer: going to the club and dance of the floor. However, in so doing, the song goes, just imagine that this is our last chance to have fun.

Meanwhile, the chorus part shows the reason for us to have fun. 'Starships are meant fo fly', so the line goes. Here, the sentence is, I believe, used figuratively. 'Starships' seem to refer to us, human beings. And 'fly' seems to mean 'have fun'. In other words, this part says that it is very normal for human beings to have fun. What's not normal is if you never go to the club.

Well, in line with the previous verses, the fourth verse talks about what a free human being does. And what it that? Well, because you act freely, and you need your money to have fun, to go to the beach, and to buy drink, then there's nothing left to pay what you must pay. Yes, you don't pay your rent. You don't pay your tax. Because you are free, you do what you want to and you do not do what you need to.

Well, that's my interpretation of Nicki Minaj's Starship song. If you have something to say, speak up your mind in the comment box. Whatever you say will be appreciated.

  1. It doesn't mean anything. Its not a song. Well maybe the "twinkle-twinkle" part is with no copyright infrigement. Its cut and splice hooks, lyrics/words dumped into a mega mix.Its a looping machine gone wild.It has no progession. Of course Nicki always has to get an obsenity or few thrown in just to try to get some street cred. @Hector Yacoub Redone (co-writers)

  2. For the people who want to know the starship is your dreams as in you and your dreams were ment to fly as in you were ment to be someone.
"Twinkle Twinkle" is about coming out and being who you are.
"Not paying rent" is about following your dreams no matter what they are or what the cost.
"The Club" Stands for her dream as in the place where she makes her dreams fly.
Not every song is about drugs and getting high.

  3. Thanks for giving some sense to this song. It is terribly horrendous and one of those head scratches that makes you wonder why the heck anyone would want this collection of noises on the radio. The message of the song as you describe is awful.

    1. Hoopty is slang for a car. An automobile.

  5. I guess this song is Nicki's way of life and how she views the world in a care-free and upbeat manner. The fact that it's rap and the pace suggests that too.

  6. You guys really toned down the interpretation, haha. She says "Fuck who you want", which is pretty clear to me, and "We're higher than a motherfucker" it's a common expression when you're smoking weed so...

Yeah. It's a pretty shallow song but, can't complain about girls encouraging other girls to have free sex and do drugs. :3

  7. This song is part of a social programming strategy driven by a group of very powerful people. Some call them call them the Illuminati. They control all major industies, they own the major banks of the world, they control governments, they are the makers of policy, and they have been for lots and lots of years.

They use "puppet" artists like Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Katy Perry or Jay-Z (some of the most blatant puppets, just to name a few) to transmit messages and program the masses into submission. These artists sign contracts with the big industry labels that turn them into idols adored by the masses, but in return the label basically owns them. The company owns the artists songs, their artist name and their image, therefore they have to do everything they are told, hence the name "puppets".

The final objective of this elite group is to turn the people of the world into cheap labor, easily manipulable, that won't think, won't protest and won't rebel to the coming of the New World Order.

They arrange us in groups, so we are more easily manipulable, and use idols like Nicki Minaj to mold how they want their target audience to be. Right now they want us promiscuous and careless.

One of the means to achieve this is by bombarding the public with entertainment, cars they want they can't afford, and sex, more sex, and every-day-more-accepted slutty adolescent whores. These artists are perfect example.

Not that I have nothing against it, I like watching those damn bitches like anybody :) But I'm aware of what they are and I can read through their message CLEARLY.

Just look at the videos, listen to the lyrics, for f**ck sake:

"Now spend all your money 'cause they pay pay pay."
"I ain't paying my rent this month. I owe that."

Yeah, let's all all get used to financial abuse. Owing money is the only way to go! Paying a big part of your income, hardly earned at a shitty job, to pay four walls and a ceiling every month is how it's meant to be, right? But who cares! because:

"f-ck who you want, and f-ck who you like"
"Dance our life, there's no end in sight"

Yay! that's it, let's not care about anything as long as we can fuck who we like every friday and saturday. You know, since there's no end in sight, who cares... And Kesha is a whore but she wears bling, so it must not be so bad.

Not that I don't like the song. In fact, I like it a lot. It triggers all the correct buttons in my brain, it makes me feel euphoric, like party rocking if you know what I mean ;) But that's just normal! It's what this music is engineered to do! After all, I am only human and I can't avoid being affected by such powerful, and carefully designed electronic sounds.

    "Starships" ?

Well, I'm not sure about that. She can be talking metaphorically about dreams, about getting high and not giving a f*ck about anything, you know, following the main theme of the music industry lately.

Or she could be delivering a message from above, getting us prepared for the coming of some real, flying Starships in the sky...

Yes, I may be a bit crazy...
